Rural Clay County Fire believed to be an arson by local authorities

(Sabin, MN) -- An investigation is underway following a rural bridge fire in Clay County.

The Sabin Fire Department and the Sheriff's Office responded to the 8000 block of 80th Street South to find a wooden bridge fully engulfed in flames. Authorities believe the fire was suspicious, and are treating it as an arson. The road near the bridge is closed until further notice. 

Additionally, the bridge was built with railroad ties, and a chemical within the ties was washed into the Buffalo River below. The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency and the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources have been notified.

An investigation into the incident is still ongoing
