(Fargo, ND) -- Triple A says the number of travelers is expected to be record breaking during the upcoming Independence Day holiday weekend.

"Of course with this being a summer time holiday the majority of people are expected to travel to the lake area, to state and national parks," said the agency's Public Affairs Director Gene LaDoucer.

LaDoucer says 50.7 million Americans will travel 50 miles or more from home this coming weekend, setting a new record for the holiday.

That's up from the previous record of 49 million travelers set in 2019.

LaDoucer expects travel during the holiday weekend to be a continuation of what has already been a very strong summer travel season.
