UPDATE: Valley City police ask for public's help in identifying body recovered from Sheyenne River

VALLEY CITY (WDAY) - SECOND UPDATE: Valley City Police have recovered a man's body from the Sheyenne River.

A citizen discovered the body just after 12 noon Monday in the area of 1000 Riverview Drive.

Investigators are asking for the public's help in identifying the man who is described as white, roughly 30 to 40 years old, with dark, short hair, and a beard.

He is roughly 5 feet ten inches tall and weighs 200 pounds.

The man was wearing only blue jeans and socks.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police. 
 

UPDATE: Valley City Police Chief Phil Hatcher has informed WDAY Radio Now that a passerby discovered a body floating in the Sheyenne River. Police are now on scene investigating. WDAY Radio now will provide more information as it becomes available.

Valley City Police are asking residents to stay away from an active crime scene in the area.

The Police Department is asking residents to avoid the area of Riverview Drive West and Riverside Gardens. "Let the officers do their job...we do have an active crime scene," Valley City Police Department said in a statement.
