(Fargo, ND) -- Fargo Police Chief Dave Zibolski praised the character and competence of fallen officer Jake Wallin during Wednesday's public Celebration of Life ceremony at Scheels arena.

"While we grieve the loss of Jake, we also know that we need more Jakes in our department, in our community and within our noble profession," said Zibolski.

Zibolski said Officer Wallin had impeccable character and a strong moral compass.

The chief also thanked the community for the outpouring of support for Wallin's family and for the department.

North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum said the community gathered Wednesday not only to celebrate the life of Officer Wallin but also to show gratitude for his service.

"What we saw from Jake, that he truly lived to serve. He yearned to work with purpose and he had a burning desire to make a difference. These guiding principles speak volumes to the kind of person he was," said Burgum.
