(Fargo, ND) -- The president of the Lignite Energy Council says CO2 pipelines are the "safest type of pipelines".

He points to a study performed by the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration.

"It showed that the deaths most likely to occur from CO2 pipelines were those that happened when like workers would have automobile accidents on the way home from work. That's the only deaths they could project," said Jason Bohrer.

Bohrer says there "never has been" safety issues with CO2 pipelines and says "there never will be".

The comments come following concerns raised by some property owners who oppose a plan by Summit Carbon Solutions to build CO2 pipelines across several Midwestern states, including North Dakota, as part of a project aimed at storing CO2 waste underground near Bismarck.

Bohrer appeared on the Flag's "What's on Your Mind".
