BELTRAMI COUNTY, MN - A 13-year old girl from the FM area died of drowning over the weekend. The Beltrami County Sheriff's Office says the girl was swimming in Lake Julia, 10 miles north of Bemidji, on Sunday when she went under. Friends called 911 after they couldn't find her. Deputies were told the girl took off her personal floatation device and was on the ladder of a pontoon when she disappeared under water. Her body was found about three hours later in 23 feet of water. The girl's name has not been released. Her body was taken to the Twin Cities for an autopsy.

The Beltrami County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the DNR, State Patrol, Bemidji Fire Department, Bemidji Ambulance Service, Lakes Area Dive Team and several bystanders who allowed the use of their personal boats until other resources arrived.
