(Fargo, ND) -- A building that houses the Prairie Public Broadcasting suffered heavy smoke damage after an early morning rooftop fire.

The Fargo Fire Department says they responded to a 9-1-1 call at approximately 1:25 a.m. on Friday. When they arrived, first responders found a fire on the roof of 207 5th Street North, the home of the Prairie Public Broadcasting building. Crews used a ladder to reach the roof, and found a fire approximately the size of a car on the air handling unit. Crews also entered the building due to suspicion of the fire spreading to the top floor. No fire was discovered, but considerable smoke and water damage was found. Tarps were placed on water-sensitive equipment.

Experts estimate the damage at $40,000 due to roof and air handling damages. The fire's cause is still under investigation.
