Defense team for man accused of killing his mother claim he may not be competent for trial

(Moorhead, MN) -- A Moorhead man accused of killing his mother in 2022 may not be mentally fit for trial.

Two psychologists took the stand Friday, claiming 25-year-old James Kollie Jr. is not mentally competent enough to help his defense team. Prosecutors also brought a psychologist to the stand, who claimed Kollie Jr. may be lying about the extent of his condition. Kollie is accused of killing his mother with multiple sharp force injuries, then traveling to North Dakota in the victim's vehicle

He faces a charge of First Degree Murder with Premeditation, which comes with a mandatory sentence of Life in Prison.
