(West Fargo, ND) -- West Fargo Police say they deployed bean bag and pepper balls to bring a suicidal male with a gun into custody.

Authorities say they went to the 1900 block of Burlington Drive after a male fled a traffic stop, eventually finding the male in his garage with a gun and reportedly making suicidal comments. West Fargo Police say they attempted to de-escalate, initially using a bean bag round from a shotgun. The man dropped his gun, but did not leave the garage. Authorities say that is when pepper balls rounds were used to force the male to leave the building.

The male was taken into custody, then brought to a local emergency mental health hold. If you or someone you know is experiencing a mental health emergency, the national suicide and crisis lifeline is 9-8-8
