City of Fargo approves final 2024 budget

(Fargo, ND) – Fargo Mayor Dr. Tim Mahoney presented his final 2024 budget to the Fargo City Commission on Monday night at their regular Fargo City Commission meeting in Fargo City Commission Chambers.

Mahoney laid out the goals of the 2024 proposed budget – retain current employees and recruit for the present openings; significantly limit new spending and focus on existing core services in the operating sector; and an overall decrease, as well as limited, capital spending.

“We moved millions of dollars from the initial budget to get this balance,” Mahoney said of the final budget.

The City has budgeted $119,770,238 in revenue and $119,770,238 in expenses, a change of more than $515,000 less from the last budget presented to the Commission. The expenses are an increase of just over seven percent overall from the initial budget viewing, Mahoney said.

City Commissioner John Strand motioned to approve the budget, and the motion was seconded by Arlette Preston. The vote passed 4-1, with City Commissioner Dave Piepkorn casting the lone no vote.
