Minnesota republicans to hold listening session Wednesday on school resource officer law

(Fargo, ND) -- Republican members of Minnesota's House and Senate Public Safety and Education committees will be holding a listening session with teachers, school officials, and members of law enforcement on the impact the new School Resource Officer law is having on school safety.

The listening session comes after the DFL has ignored repeated requests from House and Senate GOP committee leads for informational hearings to be held on the topic.

The listening session is set for Wednesday morning at 10:30 at the State Capitol.

School Resource Officers returned to campuses in Moorhead last Friday, after leadership with the Moorhead Police Department and Moorhead Area Public Schools received further input from their attorneys, and further clarification from the state attorney general regarding the new law.

School resource officers were temporarily pulled from campuses over concerns that officers could be held liable for the use of certain physical restraints on students.
