(Cass County, ND) --  Cass County will be implementing the SmartSign driver behavior program that gives drivers feedback in real time about their driving habits.

The system can identify unbelted drivers, speeders and distracted drivers along with traffic volume information. The SmartSign system uses infrared technology to collect information and will alert drivers about any unsafe driving habits.  The signs will then take the data and send it to state officials and the pilot program to help determine speeding zones, areas with high levels of distracted driving, and more.

Under the current pilot program operated by Safer Street Solutions, Cass County will have eight mobile data collector and one SmartSign for the next three years. If the program is successful, Cass County may purchase additional SmartSigns.

The system goes into effect next week.
