Vehicle crashes into garage, starts fire

(Fargo, ND) – A two-vehicle accident turned into a building fire Saturday afternoon in Fargo.

According to Fargo Fire Battalion Chief Brad Besette, Fargo firefighters responded to a report of a two-vehicle accident Saturday afternoon at 2:27 p.m.

While en route, dispatch upgraded the call to a structure fire alarm. Callers reported one of the vehicles from the accident crashed into a garage and then started on fire. When firefighters arrived on scene, they found a car halfway into a garage structure under a residence with an engine compartment on fire. Heavy smoke was also present.

One occupant of the home, along with the dog, were present at the time of the fire, and were in the residence directly above the fire. The crew conducting search and rescue on the second floor helped the occupant and her dog out of the building.

The resident was transported to the hospital for smoke inhalation.

The building sustained minor structural damage.
