(Update: 11:33 a.m.) -- A West Fargo fire displaced several residents after it ripped through a condo building.

A spokesperson with the City of West Fargo says they fire began at approximately 3:45 a.m. Wednesday morning at 237 12th ½ Avenue East. Crews arrived to large flames and smoke pouring from the roof of the building. A ladder truck was used to put out the fire, which burned over five hours. Crews remain on scene to ensure a blaze does not restart.

Fire crews credit additional staff from the new fire headquarters as a crucial reason why more property was saved and lives were protected.

“For the first time, the West Fargo Fire Department had multiple full-time crews available to assist in containing and fighting a very active structure fire,” said Chief Dan Fuller. “The addition of a full-time crew housed out of our new fire headquarters in the north quadrant of West Fargo was instrumental in limiting the loss of property and protecting the lives of our residents.”

A total damage estimate is unknown at this time, but six condo units sustained heavy smoke and fire damage. An exact cause is still under investigation. All residents inside the units were displaced due to the blaze. No one was injured.
