No injuries in train versus car crash

(Spiritwood, ND) — No injuries were reported after a Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF) train collided with a vehicle west of Spiritwood Saturday afternoon.

According to the North Dakota Highway Patrol, the collision happened just after 4 p.m. approximately one-and-a-half miles west of Spiritwood in Stutsman County.

A 2015 Ford Fusion, driven by a 19-year-old Jamestown woman, was southbound on 92nd Avenue SE, just west of Spiritwood. A BNSF train was westbound on the rail line. The female driver failed to yield to the right of way and crossed the railroad tracks.

The train then struck the rear drivers side of the Ford Fusion, causing it to spin out and come to rest on the south side of the railroad tracks. The female driver was uninjured in the crash.

The crash is under investigation by the North Dakota Highway Patrol.
