Passenger in West Fargo traffic stop dies by suicide

(West Fargo, ND) -- A passenger died by suicide during a traffic stop Sunday before noon. 

The West Fargo Police Department says the traffic stop began at approximately 11:30 a.m. at the intersection of 26th Avenue S.. and Veterans Boulevard. The driver was briefly detained by authorities, but the passenger remained in the vehicle and did not follow commands of officers on the scene. As officers were providing additional commands, the passenger died by suicide via firearm. 

No shots were fired by the West Fargo Police Department, nor were any other injuries reported. 

Authorities say the stop occurred because of probable cause related to a domestic dispute. West Fargo Police also responded to a domestic dispute on February 10th. 

West Fargo Police were assisted by the Fargo Police Department and other first responders.
