Fargo releases 2023 Annual Report, showing decreases in violent and property crime

(Fargo, ND) -- The Fargo Police Department has released their 2023 annual report. It was delivered by Police Chief Dave Zibolski to city commissioners Monday afternoon.

Some highlights include a small decrease in Property and Persons crimes, but a 16% increase in crimes-against society. This means there have been decreases in violent and property crime across the board, except simple assault which was up by 1% and shoplifting which was up by 26%.

Nearly 87,000 m30 fentanyl pills were seized, along with 11 pounds of Meth, 554 grams of cocaine, 25lbs of marijuana, and $251,000 in cash seizures between the Metro Street Crimes Unit and The Cass Clay Drug Task Force.

Additionally, there were 15 officer retirements and 39 hires, which includes fallen police officer Jake Wallin. 

“This report highlights the outstanding teamwork of our personnel -- both sworn and non-sworn -- who carry out our daily mission of providing the highest level of service to the community, continual improvement through training and forward-thinking approaches. Their efforts, despite challenges beyond their control, continue to develop our very good department into a great one.”
