Motorcyclist seriously injured in accident involving Fargo fire truck; fire crew was responding to emergency

(Fargo, ND) -- INITIAL REPORT: The North Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating an accident involving a fire truck and motorcyclist.

It happened just before noon today at 45th Street and 40th Avenue South. 

WDAY Radio Now is waiting for responses from NDHP and the City of Fargo for additional information. 

UPDATE: The Fargo Fire Department shared this statement with WDAY Radio Now, related to the accident:

"“The thoughts of the entire Fargo Fire Department family are with the motorcyclist injured in Friday’s crash. We remain steadfast in our hopes for a successful recovery,” stated Fargo Fire Chief Steve Dirksen."

SECOND UPDATE: The Highway Patrol released additional details on the accident late Friday afternoon:

"The 2013 Pumper Fire Truck was north on 45th Street South in lane three and was responding to a structure fire. The Fire Truck had it’s red and white emergency lights on as it proceeded through the intersection of 40th Avenue South. The Fire Truck also had it’s siren activated and utilized an air horn at the intersection. The Honda motorcycle was north on 45th Street South in lane 2. The motorcycle merged into lane three, colliding with the Fire Truck. The driver of the motorcycle was ejected and sustained serious injuries from the crash. The crash remains under investigation by the North Dakota Highway Patrol. The names of the drivers will be released at a later date."
