Unsealed court documents detail events that led to murder charge against Tyrque Jones

FARGO, N.D. – Court documents that have previously been sealed detail what happened the night Azeem Holmes was killed in Fargo, and what police documented was involvement by Tyrque Jones.

Jones was initially charged with murdering Holmes.

He was arrested in Minneapolis on Wednesday, and police cleared him of being the man responsible for Holmes’ death after interviewing him in the Hennepin County Jail.

Judge Tristan Van de Streek dismissed the charges Friday morning, and Flag Family Media received the unsealed documents late Friday afternoon.

According to the documents, Jones told detectives that he had been hanging out with Elijah Hughes that night playing video games at Jones’ apartment. Hughes left, and a short time later, Jones heard noises that could have been gunshots. He stated he ran outside the front door of the apartment complex to investigate but couldn’t see anything. He said he didn’t check the back door, where Hughes had been located deceased later.

Officer Keith Fugleberg, according to court documents, located video footage of the District 64 Bar shooting via security video of nearby Fort Noks Bar. The footage shows Holmes strike Jones in the head with a glass liquor bottle on the sidewalk near District 64 Bar. Jones appears to chase Holmes, according to court documents. Fugleberg then observed Jones brandish a pistol and point it towards Holmes, followed by several ‘apparent muzzle flashes.’

Three victims, including Holmes, can be seen falling to the ground, court documents say.
