Man arrested in connection to mail thefts in Cass & Ransom counties

NORTH DAKOTA – A man has been arrested in connection to mail thefts in Cass and Ransom counties.

The Cass County Sheriff’s Office shared information about an investigation into mail thefts in rural parts of the county with the United States Postal Inspection Service in August 2025.

Authorities found out the thefts began in April 2025 with more than 250 people impacted.

Fifty-year-old Michael Hunter of Moorhead was arrested for a federal warrant in connection with the mail theft investigation on January 29.

“Considering this case was investigated for several months, the investigation is another example that illustrates the strong collaboration between our federal law enforcement partners and the dedication that our agency, along with our partners, has towards spending time and resources to ensure we bring justice to our residents,” Cass County Sheriff Jesse Jahner said.
