Minnesota legislative session to begin with fraud on the minds of many

SAINT PAUL, Minn. – Minnesota’s legislative session begins at noon on Tuesday, February 17 and a topic on many lawmakers’ minds is fraud.

DFL State Senator Rob Kupec of Moorhead notes the Senate passed a bill last year to install an inspector general in state government.. but the House never took it up.

He hopes legislation on that will be passed this year.

“We’d have somebody looking at all of the agencies. They’d have law enforcement behind them. They’d have subpoena power.” Kupec said.

Republican State Representative Jim Joy of Hawley said this session he’ll fight tooth and nail to expose fraud and restore real checks and balances and protect every taxpayer dollar like it belongs to his own family.

“When we put politics aside and focus on doing what’s right, we can deliver real results for all of Minnesota,” Joy explained.
