Moorhead Area Public Schools Superintendent concerned about projected MN deficit

The Flag’s Scott Hennen’s full interview with Dr. Brandon Lunak:

MOORHEAD, Minn. – Moorhead Area Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Brandon Lunak says he’s concerned about the impact that Minnesota’s projected $6 billion budget deficit will have on future school funding.

“That’s the one thing that’s keeping us up at night. If you combine that instability with the potential changes that could be coming from the federal government in terms of how the dollars are distributed to the states, that’s another impact,” Lunak explained.

Lunak also says the process of sending federal education funding to states is up in the air.

The Trump Administration has set the ball in motion to cut the U.S. Department of Education workforce in half before it’s fully dismantled.

The department gives money to states, which determine how much school districts get.

Lunak says his district doesn’t have much communication with the U.S. Department of Education.
