MOORHEAD, MINN – The Moorhead Police Department is reporting an increased number of reports regarding a fraud scam targeting local businesses.
“The caller pretends to be from your company’s “IT Help Desk” or “Asset Protection,” claiming there’s an issue with your PIN pad or register,” the department said in a social media post. “They walk employees through a fake “calibration” process — and before anyone realizes what’s happening, over large amounts of money has been sent through credit card or gift card transactions.”
Moorhead Police encourage businesses to call police if a call is received like this.
