Moorhead Police expect to be fully staffed by the end of 2026

MOORHEAD, MINN. — While some departments across the country are struggling to find staff, the Moorhead Police Department is having success doing so.

Chief Chris Helmick tells Flag Family News that the Moorhead Police Department currently has seven openings in its department. Three officers are currently in training.

It’s the goal of the department to be fully staffed by the end of the year, and this year is the first time since 2023 that the vacancies within the department are in single digits.

Helmick also said the department has shifted to 12-hour shifts, a decision that was made by the officers. The shift in hours has, in some cases, led to double the amount of officers working at a given time.
