BISMARCK, N.D. – North Dakota Game and Fish is set to give out 39,100 deer hunting licenses this year which is down 3,200 from 2025.
The department said this is the lowest amount in over 50 years.
Officials say the statewide deer herd continues to recover from the lingering effects of the 2022-2023 winter and epizootic hemorrhagic disease outbreaks across a landscape with increasingly limited habitat.
Game and Fish is offering a conservative amount of licenses to maintain hunting opportunities while encouraging an increase in deer population.
