Secret Service Says Most Mass School Shootings Can Be Avoided

(Washington, DC) -- The Secret Service believes most school shootings are preventable.

The agency released a report of 67 planned attacks on schools that were thwarted because in nearly all of the cases, the perpetrator gives off warning signs.

Usually, they just tell their friends what they're up to, but other warning signs include a fascination with past violence, a keen interest in weapons, suicidal thoughts and harassing behavior.

About half of the plotters surveyed were bullied by their classmates. The Secret Service says students planned their attacks for months, which normally gives people around them time to stop it from happening if they know what to look for.
