(Tinton Falls, NJ) -- Vito Perillo has won reelection as mayor of the Monmouth County borough of Tinton Falls and -- at 97 years of age -- may be America's oldest mayor.
Perillo is a World War Two veteran and a former electrical engineer for the Defense Department. He beat three other opponents in the nonpartisan election Tuesday. Perillo first ran for mayor of Tinton Falls three years ago and had no political experience.
While campaigning, he pointed to accomplishments during his first term, including reduction of municipal taxes and repaving more than ten miles of sidewalks and roads.
