2022 Oscar nominations announced

(Los Angeles, CA)  --  The nominations for the 2022 Oscars are out.

For best picture, nominees include "Belfast," "Coda," "Don't Look Up," "Drive My Car," "Dune," "King Richard," "Licorice Pizza," "Nightmare Alley," "The Power of the Dog," and "West Side Story."  

Best actor in a leading role nominees include Javier Bardem for "Being the Ricardos" and Benedict Cumberbatch in "The Power of the Dog."  Andrew Garfield gets a nod for "Tik, Tik...Boom," Will Smith gets one for "King Richard" and Denzel Washington is nominated for "The Tragedy of Macbeth." Best leading actress nominees include Nicole Kidman for "Being the Ricardos" and Jessica Chastain in "The Eyes of Tammy Faye."  Olivia Colman gets a nod for "The Lost Daughter," Penelope Cruz gets one for "Parallel Mothers" and Kristen Stewart is nominated for "Spencer."

As for best supporting actor and actress, the nominees include two actors in "The Power of the Dog were nominated: Kodi Smit-McPhee and Jesse Plemons. Other nominees include Ciaran Hinds for "Belfast," Troy Kotsur for "Coda," and J.K. Simmons for "Being The Ricardos." Judi Dench for "Belfast" and Kirsten Dunst for "The Power of the Dog."  Ariana DeBose gets a nod for "West Side Story," Jessie Buckley gets one for "The Lost Daughter" and Aunjanue Ellis is nominated for "King Richard" on the actress side.

The nominations for original screenplay are "Belfast" by Kenneth Branagh and "King Richard" written by Zach Baylin. "Don't Look Up" by Adam McKay and David Sirota gets a nod, "Licorice Pizza" written by Paul Thomas Anderson and "The Worst Person in the World" by Eskil Vogt and Joachim Trier are also nominated. Best original song nominees are "Be Alive" by Beyonce Knowles-Carter and Dixson from "King Richard" and "Dos Oruguitas" by Lin-Manuel Miranda from "Encanto."  Van Morrison's "Down to Joy" from "Belfast" gets a nod, Billie Eilish and Finneas O'Connell get one for their James Bond theme song "No Time to Die" and  "Somehow You Do" by Dianne Warren from "Four Good Days" is also nominated.  

The 94th Academy Awards ceremony will take place at Los Angeles' Dolby Theatre on March 27th. The telecast will also have an official host for the first time since 2018.
