(Los Angeles, CA) -- Actor Will Smith has resigned from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences following him slapping Chris Rock at The Oscars.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) has officially recognized and accepted the resignation, stating the organization will "continue to move forward" with "disciplinary proceedings against Mr. Smith for violations of the Academy's Standards of Conduct."

Smith will no longer have access to AMPAS benefits, which include access to screeners for films in consideration and the ability to vote for future nominees at other award ceremonies. His ability to attend future events sponsored by AMPAS, including the Academy Awards, will be decided in a meeting later this month.
It is unknown if Smith can rejoin AMPAS at this time, but will likely be decided by the 54 board members in a future meeting.
