Food prices soar amid Ukraine War

(Washington, D.C.) -- Fears of a global hunger crisis are growing due to Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

The war sent food prices soaring to record highs last month. The cost of cereal alone is up 17-percent. Both countries account for a huge share of major commodities exports including wheat, corn and vegetable oil.

A Russian blockade is tying up Ukrainian ports and there's concern this year's harvest could suffer as the fighting continues during the spring planting season.
