(London) -- British Prime Minister Liz Truss is resigning.

The conservative party leader made the announcement Thursday morning from 10 Downing Street in London, just six weeks after stepping into the role.

Truss said she was given a mandate to deliver change in the struggling British economy, a mandate she now feels she can't deliver on.

Truss, who replaced ousted PM Boris Johnson, said she will remain on until a new leader is chosen.
