Dozens injured due to extreme turbulence on Hawaiian Airlines flight

(Honolulu, HI) -- Severe turbulence is blamed for at least 36 injuries aboard a Hawaiian Airlines flight from Phoenix to Honolulu.

The flight hit severe turbulence on Sunday about 30 minutes before landing, with some passengers sent flying from their seats.

Eleven of those injured are said to be in serious condition.

Hawaiian Airlines said the flight landed safely in Honolulu following the turbulence, with 20 people taken to emergency rooms.
