(Fargo, ND) -- Scientists have successfully used robots to capture footage of fish deeper than ever before.

The effort, a collaboration between the Australians and Japanese, recorded video of a snailfish more than 27-thousand feet below the surface of the Pacific.

That's more than five miles down.

The fish was found in a deep trench last year south of Japan.
