(Orange County, CA) -- Massive winter storms that drenched California's landscape are fueling a mushroom explosion.

The unusually wet weather has created ideal conditions for mushrooms to thrive in Southern California and the moisture is bringing out so many varieties of fungi.

Experts and foragers are calling it a "shroom boom." They say this year's mushroom season will extend well beyond the January and February peak because of the highly saturated soils.

However, experts warn foragers to be especially careful because more variety means a higher chance of finding a poisonous one.
