(Monmouth, NJ) -- Less than half of Americans say they would support an assault weapons ban.

Only 46 percent of respondents in a Monmouth University poll say they're for banning future sales of assault weapons sales in the U.S. That's a nine point drop from a June 2022 poll in which 55 percent said they would support a ban, just after the May 2022 Uvalde school shooting.

But, the survey found that almost three in four respondents would support a federal law to allow police to confiscate guns of someone who poses a threat, and more than 80 percent say they would support comprehensive background checks.
