Democratic Senators urge President Biden to use constitutional authority to raise debt limit

(Washington, DC)  --  Senate Democrats are trying to get President Biden to use the 14th Amendment to raise the debt ceiling.

Led by Minnesotan Tina Smith, they penned a letter to Biden saying the spending cuts House Speaker Kevin McCarthy is proposing are unacceptable.

They suggest Biden instead go around Republican lawmakers by raising the debt limit unilaterally using his constitutional authority under the 14th Amendment.

Biden has yet to consider the move, something that's never been done before and would most likely be challenged in court.
