President Biden announces new rule to bolster mental health access

(Washington, DC)  --  President Biden is pushing insurers to improve access to mental health care for Americans.

Biden announced a proposed rule today to strengthen requirements so health insurers cover behavioral health at the same level as physical health.

Biden at the White House said "there's no distinction between breaking your arm and having a mental breakdown."

The president noted that mental health and substance abuse treatment is out of reach for many Americans.

The rule is expected to be published in the Federal Register next week.

It would then enter a 60-day public comment period before taking effect.
