White House defends border policy amid migrant surge

(Washington, DC)  --  The White House is defending its border policies as migrant crossings are surging.

Press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said the administration has taken action to curb the flow of migrants into the U.S., but Congress needs to act to pass immigration reform.

This comes as thousands have crossed the southern border and stretched personnel and detention capacity to the brink in recent days.

In response, the administration granted more than 400-thousand Venezuelans work permits and deployed military assistance.
