(Washington, D.C.) -- Ohio Congressman Jim Jordan will not seek a third vote to become Speaker of the House today.

This comes after he failed to get the necessary votes from members of his own party during two rounds of ballots earlier this week. Jordan, however, will reportedly remain Speaker designee and try to rally the votes at a later time. House Republicans are now meeting behind closed doors and are discussing possibly expanding interim Speaker Patrick McHenry's powers on a short-term basis. The House has been without a speaker for more than two weeks after Kevin McCarthy was voted out.

The chamber is unable to move legislation until a Speaker is elected.
