(Washington, DC) – President Joe Biden plans to pitch a budget request to Congress for national security.

“Tomorrow, I am going to send to Congress an urgent budget request to fund America’s national security needs,” he said in a nearly 15-minute address to the nation. “To support our critical partners, including Israel and Ukraine, is a smart investment that is going to pay dividends for American security for generations.”

Biden calls American leadership the one thing that “holds the world together.”

He said the United States, and their partners across the region, are working to build a better future for the Middle East. The key is, Biden said, to make sure Israel has “what they need to protect their people today and always.”

“The security package I’m sending to Congress, and asking Congress to do, is an unprecedented commitment to Israel’s security that will sharpen Israel’s qualitative military edge, which we have committed to,” President Biden said. “We cannot give up on peace.”

Biden said he has secured a shipment of humanitarian assistance from the nations of the United Nations to Palestinian citizens in Gaza.
