Cramer, colleagues call on UN to designate Hamas a 'terrorist organization'

(Washington, DC) — Senator Kevin Cramer, a member of the Senate’s Armed Services Committee, has joined several of his colleagues in the United States Senate in a letter calling on the United Nations to designate Hamas as a terrorist organization, along with imposing sanctions on the group.

The letter highlighted Hamas’ continued diversion of aid meant for civilians to fund its operations. They impose import "taxes" on humanitarian consignments; seize and illicitly sell donated goods intended for Palestinian civilians; confiscate donated supplies; and dismantle and repurpose humanitarian facilities to create rockets and missiles, some of which misfire and land in Gaza, causing Palestinian civilian casualties and posing threats to aid workers.

The letter was led by Republican Senators Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.) and James Lankford (R-Okla.), along with Nevada Democratic Senator Jacky Rosen.
