(Washington, DC)  --  The push to impeach DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas over his handling of the border crisis is heating up.

The Republican-led House Homeland Security Committee is marking up articles of impeachment against the secretary today. Republican Mark Green of Tennessee accused Mayorkas of willfully and systematically refusing to comply with federal immigration laws. He added that the results at the southern border have been "catastrophic." Democratic Congressman Bennie Thompson of Mississippi said there's no evidence the secretary has broken the law or violated the Constitution.

A vote on the House floor could come as soon as next week. The controversial move would make Mayorkas the first Cabinet secretary to be impeached in nearly 150 years.
