(New Orleans, LA)  --  An appeals court has issued a ruling keeping a Texas law on hold that would allow police to arrest people suspected of illegally crossing the border.

In a two-to-one ruling the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in New Orleans denied the state of Texas request to suspend a lower court order that found SB-4's legislation unconstitutional and to allow the state to enforce the law while the case plays out in court.

Arguments are expected in the case next week.
