(New York, NY) -- The UN General Assembly is expected to support a Palestinian bid to become a full member of the United Nations.

All 193 members of the General Assembly are expected to vote today on a draft resolution that would recognize the Palestinians as qualified to join the UN.  The Palestinian UN mission in New York says adopting the draft resolution would affirm "the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination, including the right to their independent State."

The Palestinian bid would then need to be approved by the UN Security Council.
