ND Congresswoman responds to calls for in-person town halls, saying she feels “very connected” with current approach

Bismarck, N.D. – Congresswoman Julie Fedorchak is responding to continued calls for her and the other two members of North Dakota’s congressional delegation to host in-person town halls as opposed to other formats such as by telephone or other media.

On May 2nd, the League of Women Voters of North Dakota held a press conference requesting all three lawmakers, who include U.S. Senators John Hoeven and Kevin Cramer, to contact them to plan future events.

“We’re having town halls all the time,” said Fedorchak during an interview on The Flag’s What’s On Your Mind?.

Fedorchak says she not only holds livestream events called ‘Fedorchak Forums’, the Republican says she’s on the radio “multiple times every week” and has community meetings in the state that are open to the public.

While recognizing that Fedorchak does hold events, the LWV suggested voters are being denied access to their lawmakers in a face-to-face fashion which reduces the ability to hold elected leaders accountable and “weakens democracy”.

“Being in touch with North Dakotans is one of my top priorities,” said Fedorchak. “I feel very connected and advised by the citizens of the state.”

Previously, Senator Hoeven has said he also holds public events on a regular basis that anyone can attend, and Senator Cramer has signaled that he’d open to coming up with an idea to host an in-person session.
