BISMARCK, N.D. – The North Dakota Health and Human Services Department said processing applications for new and recertifying SNAP applications are taking longer than usual.
“We are actively working to reduce the backlog by increasing staffing, streamlining processes where possible and using technology to speed reviews,” ND HHS Communications Manager Mindy Michaels said in an email.
Flag Family News asked Michaels why there’s a backlog and how many applications haven’t been responded to, but we didn’t hear back.
ND HHS expects processing times to improve in the coming weeks and those needing assistance can contact their local Human Service Zone office for help getting other food resources and support.
According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, state agencies or local SNAP offices are required to give those applying for SNAP benefits a notice if they’re eligible within 30 days.
