Parents of student who brought THC candy to Horizon Middle School are arrested

MOORHEAD, Minn. – Two adults have been arrested in connection with students sickened by candy police believe had THC at Horizon East Middle School in Moorhead.

Officers executed a search warrant on the 1100 block of 10½ St N where investigators say they found prohibited amounts of suspected THC products including flower, cartridges and wax and psychedelic mushrooms and large amounts of money.

Authorities say 40-year-old Martin Hulst and 43-year-old Amanda Hulst are the parents of the child who brought the candy to school. They’ve been charged with felony first degree controlled substance and multiple children have been referred to Clay County Social Services.

On Monday, May 18, Police say a student handed out candy the department believes had THC to nine classmates. Two children were taken to the hospital and first responders came to the school.

Minnesota law allows adults age 21 and older to have up to eight cannabis plants at home with four being mature in an enclosed, locked space. They’re also allowed to have up to two pounds of cannabis, eight grams of adult-use concentrate and up to 800 milligrams in THC edibles.
