Proposed changes to North Dakota’s window tint laws will not hit the ballot

BISMARCK, N.D. – A proposal to change North Dakota’s window tinting laws will not be placed on the June ballot.

Jeremy Schaeffer is the chairperson of the sponsoring committee that was pushing for the state to change its tinting laws.

More than 15,000 signatures were needed, with the group falling short.

“We were 4,000 signatures short of the required minimum amount so it will not be on the ballot,” Schaeffer told Flag Family News in an e-mail. “I will have a future endeavor to try again and make it happen with the knowledge I have now.”

The measure would have allowed window tint light emittance ‘to be at any level an individual chooses it to be for the windshield, as well as front and rear windows. It also would allow for any color or transparent design to be applied to any of the windows,’ according to a February 2025 press release from the North Dakota Secretary of State’s office.

Schaeffer called the support for his efforts ‘superb.’

“I have a Facebook page for the petition that started with nothing and is now up to 760 followers,” he said.
