(Belcourt, ND) -- The Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa is filling an empty tribal council seat.
Members of the council voted to appoint Kenny "Bugger" Malaterre to fill the vacancy. He was the previous runner-up in a council election and was sworn in Wednesday.
Malaterre will finish for previous District One councilman Nathan Davis, who has been appointed to serve as the new North Dakota Indian Affairs Commissioner.
