Panel Approves Redistricting Map With Two Subdivisions

(Bismarck, ND) -- A panel of North Dakota lawmakers is moving forward with a redistricting map that includes subdivisions for two districts.

The newly approved map subdivides District Four that encompasses the Fort Berthold Reservation, and District Nine, which contains the Turtle Mountain Reservation.

The panel split the districts for House representation after requests from tribal leaders. The leaders say the move will provide a better chance for Native Americans on the reservations to get elected.

The proposed map will go to the entire Legislature for a vote when a special session convenes starting November 8th.
